Artist's Access To The Gallery
The back door to the gallery has become legendary; not to the same scale as has the box-awning, but, I'd say it's holding it's own. The door is approximately fifteen in height. It is what we describe as a "Dutch Door" construction, in that, it was installed in two sections.
The top section remains shut during the day-to-day operations of the gallery; while the bottom section opens and closes as needed throughout the day.
I designed this one-of-a-kind, serpentine door-handle to give the gallery some "pop"! It separates where the doors do; but, appears seamless when both doors are shut. "Why a fifteen-foot-high door" you say? So I can get those 14-foot, 11-7/8-inch canvases into the gallery. If you are an artist that likes to do very larger-scale canvases, then, I've got a great place to exhibit your work.
I had one visitor, to the gallery, come up to me and say, "If you had nothing else, at all, to display in your gallery, that door, on it's own, would be worth a leisurely, Saturday afternoon, drive down to Hollister." I'll have to take that as a compliment. To be honest, however, I would be remiss were I to take all the credit. As with the lighting systems, galvanized cladding, floor refinishing, painting, box-awning, reception desk, custom reupholstering of the gallery's lounge furniture, and the extensive electrical work, I did not do it all by myself.
I know there is an exact number; but, I would estimate that there were as many forty-to-fifty local craftsmen and specialist and five or six outside of the Hollister area that were involved, at one time or another, in bringing the BLAK SAGE Gallery of Fine Art to it's current magnificent state of grace. You know what? As a promise, I'm going to sit down and create a list with each and everyone one of these people and thank them by adding them, and their contact information, to this website. I mean, why should I keep all the efforts of these fine folks to myself?
