Introduction

What makes The BLAK SAGE Gallery of Fine Art unique amongst galleries of it's kind?
The Blak Sage Gallery of Fine Art was fashioned after the museum style of galleries that grace the avenues in the famous Chelsea District of New York City.
The building that houses the gallery was completed in 1907. The gallery's ceiling is roughly twenty feet high and is completely clad in the original, antique tin tiles that were so popular at the turn of the previous century. They have been fully restored to an elegant, flat-finish pewter that dramatically accentuates the incredible three-dimensional machine-pressed design that is uniquely ornate.
While remodeling the common area of the building, that the gallery shares with two upscale clothing stores, we were fortunate enough to salvage a few hundred of these exquisite antique ceiling tiles. We were so taken by their intricate and unique design that we incorporated eleven of them into the design and construction of our reception desk and the brilliantly colored box awning that adorns the San Benito Street entrance to the gallery.
As you can see we are quite easy to spot as you make your way south, along San Benito Street, through downtown Hollister.
The floor of the gallery is the original concrete poured back in 1907. It is a rich, light chocolate-colored, fine-grained terrazzo, if you will. Despite the amount of time and expense that we put into all of the custom lighting systems and the galvanized steel cladding, of the support columns and baseboards, it's the simple, minimalistic treatment of the floor that visitors comment on the most. This is, of course, after they've gotten over the majestic shock brought on by the, one-of-a-kind, box awning out front.
